Parasight from E.S. Carter starts right off with the explanation of the demon/monster that Grim believes himself to be..........."his devil, with jagged teeth, will tear the meat from your bones and drink the light from your soul". His allegiance is to few as he resists the draw to the broken and angelic Calliad, whom he rescues from the hands of a sadistic and evil Master. There is darkness in this story that is unimaginable and yet you find yourself searching for, believing in and hoping for, good to overcome. I am a huge fan of Eli's and have read everything she has written. Her writing is descriptive, imaginative, mysterious and full of substance. You will laugh, you will cry and question how she does what she does with mere words. She does not disappoint and I know that you will also become a fan.
After reading Feyness and the introduction to Grim, I knew that I NEEDED to read his story! With the glimpses we get of him in Faye and Cole’s story, I knew that his would be one of deranged f****dupness. Parasight exceeds the darkness that we see in the first book. I devoured and revelled in the madness that indulged my dark soul.
Grim is beastly in looks and in the way he delivers vengeance. He is violent and unforgiving once his demon is unleashed. He is the reaper, he is death personified and his punishment is fierce. There is no salvation to those he has set his sights on. He also has a bizarre proclivity to retain a “trophy” from each of his prized executions.
Calliah becomes one of Grim’s eccentrically acquired souvenirs. She has an unnatural skill of perception and she sees Grim beyond what he is and does. He pledges to eradicate all who have damaged and abused her. Can she stay as his keepsake, and will she be able to withstand his demon’s animalistic and aberrant demands?

ES Carter has left me amazed.
The story the author writes isn't one of fanciful love, sweet dates, flowers and chocolates. This is a story of the monsters that are waiting in the dark.
Grim isn't the knight and shining armour. He's the devil coming to rip you to shreds.
Cal, well she's the victim of life but she's not just lying there and just taking it.
I cannot fully express how much I adored this story... If it weren't for real life I'd have devoured it in one day.
The characters, not just the main ones are fantastic, the scenes written and described in such a vivid way that leaves you breathless. Page after page after page of beautiful consuming darkness.
Like what the heck am I supposed to do with myself now that it is over? Where do I go?
Read this. You really should.
I loved this story, loved it's darkness and I especially loved Grim up until the very end.
ES Carter wrote such an incredibly astounding and bewitching tale... And I cannot wait for Luke's story will bring...
Let me start by saying WOW!!! Now after I caught my breath and picked my jaw up off the floor it's time to piece together all my thoughts in what I hope will be a coherent review as I was left speechless after finishing this forever haunting story.
Parasight is book 2 in ES Carter's Red Order series and it's the ONE book I've been waiting for - I'm a sucker for the damaged antihero and Grim provided just that. This book was everything I dreamed it would be it's dark and gritty, bloody and action packed, but most importantly, full of emotion.
Grim, our scary yet lovable leading man - well, at least I think that - is back and better than before. He's still the same old knife loving, axe weilding man , but after one unthinkable event leaves him emotionally shattered he starts showing the one thing we wouldn have never guess he was capabale of, FEELINGS.
And the bearer of his attentions is none other than one strong leading lady. Calliah, is what I wished Grim would get. She's a tough and doesn't back down from a 'fight' type of heroine . After everything she's been through at the hands of her masters, she's right there in the midst of the war to get them destroyed.
The love story between these two is one of the many things that make Parasight a must read - from the get go there's chemistry, even in the saddest of times Calliah found comfort in Grim's strong and powerful embrace, while he found solace in the depths of her blue eyes. From there on out it isn't smooth sailing - don't be deluded, they don't instantly fall for each other and profess their undying love - they have to fight against their own reasoning and memories in order to maybe give themselves a fair shot.
What I loved the most about this story is how easily ES Carter dug into her dark and twisted resources to bring her readers a book that left me saying WTF quite often, one that had me stop in the middle of the action to catch my breath; one that made me think that nothing is of limits for her when she says she'll write a dark suspense romance - get ready for a bloodbath!!!
This is all I'll say about the story as it's one that has to be experienced without extra information. Just remember, Parasight is the story of two broken individuals, scarred by their past both on the surface but mosty deep down, who are afraid to even imagine that they are worthy of love, but who in each other find the things that they didn't know they were missing - carrying and understanding.
