JJ Justice has spent her adulthood lost and alone and vulnerable to the haunting of a past she can't remember. It's no wonder she feels different from other people, and not surprising that she chose the police force as a way of standing up for others who are defenseless against the evils of the world. But when her only friend and partner is brutally murdered by a creature not of this world, JJ discovers a greater purpose. She is called to hunt the monsters only she can see. Once again, she resigns herself to living her life alone.

Guardian of the Race, Bernardo ad Tormeo, longs for a woman of his own, one that's as fun loving and loyal as his Liege Lord's Lady, Grace, and as soft and gentle as his fellow Guardian's mate, Hope, but the chances of meeting such a woman seem slim to none. What, with the nightly patrols and his gaming business, he hasn't the time to go searching for love. Besides, he's seen too many matings that didn't work out.

Nardo is sworn to protect his people and their human cousins from the demons who cross over from the Otherworld. He never thought he would be hunting a vampire; just like he never thought of falling in love with a leather clad ex-cop who can kick demon butt with the best of them.

How do you romance a woman who thinks more of knives than roses? And how do you help her fight the demons of her soul when she can't remember who they are? Nardo doesn't know, but he's determined to find out. He only hopes he and his new love can find the answers before a monster from Joy's past takes away the only woman he will ever love.

Guardian Joy Guardians of the Race Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) Jacqueline Rhoades Holly Adams Books

So I enjoyed the Wolver stories and decided to try the guardians. Guardian's Joy brings in a new element and a more complicated plot. There is a secret society that is pushing the 'pure' race and the evil reaches deep. JJ or Joy Justice was brought up in that environment, in a compound, with her people yet apart. A lot of her life now is based on her past - Her decisions, her reactions, and her lack of trust.

Nardo is self contained, smart, but seen as on the computer most of the time. Sure he is part of 'the family' and patrols with them. But like another reviewer said, he isn't as deeply drawn as Joy. He wasn't satisfied with past guardian homes so he drifted around until he settled here, a place that could use his high level tech. He is valued but he's about the middle of the pack in hierarchy (word of the day).

While I enjoyed more than the romance and updates on past couples and characters. . . . This one took off into more details. While the plot expands I expected more answers when the story ended.

1. JJ had not met all the men in the house, she was still recovering, yet she was in the war room for the first time. Checking out the bulliten board, the pins, trying to figure out what's going on. As she was checking things out we get this detailed description of the table and who sits where at it. She is standing there telling us about people she hasn't met and where they sit at that table and she knows their rank due to where they sit.

Some little nit picks for me:

JJ never knew her dad. Yet she's a throwback. Ok. Nardo is a computer expert. Why not get a blood test and find some genetic markers and speak to a doctor? (Besides the one they consulted). It'd also be nice to know what lineage her mother was from.

No conclusion on who the head honcho evil bad guy is. No idea if there are more labs out there. No idea if the lady councilor was a part of it. There also wasn't anything said publically about this whole thing - To date it was hushed up from the general population. There was no mention of computer records destroyed or visiting the doctor's home and destroying evidence. And what about the friend, the doctor that spilled the beans? He just disappears and we don't hear anything else about him. There was no conclusion on how the guardian house stands with the council and that has been hanging over their heads since this series started. You know, no council support for more warriors or enlisting or supporting the guardians or recompense for the theft from the coffers. (I am vague because I try not to do too many spoilers).

But there were too many loose ends, the take down of the lab was just too quick. And if I wanted to really get nit picky we never hear if the females from Faith's rescue, the women taken to the hospital, recovered. Or what happened to Joseph. I wanted to see more of him.

Despite all that I did enjoy the story and give it a 4 stars. - Dan's Wife

Guardian Joy Guardians of the Race Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) Jacqueline Rhoades Holly Adams Books Reviews

We first met Nardo in Guardian's Grace (1st in the series). He was a computer nerd trying to find his place in the Guardian's world. He's a secondary character in both Guardian's Grace and Guardian's Hope. We start to learn little bits about him, including his knack for hacking into every database known to man. Guardian's Joy is the 3rd in the series. It's the story of Joy and Nardo.

We met Joy in Guardian's Hope. She was the cop who confronted Nico and Nardo as they brought Hope out of a house. She had introduced herself as "JJ", which is what she prefers to be called. We meet her this time around about 6-months later. Her cop partner, also her best friend has been murdered by a vampire. JJ took a leave of absence from the police force to try to find and kill as many monsters as possible. She has her own weapon; she can shoot blue fire out of her fingertips. She follows such a monster one night and intercepts an attack. The Guardians (and Nardo) are out patrolling and find JJ standing over a dead woman. Nardo mistakenly thinks JJ has killed the woman and chases her. He injures her in the process. A demon breaks up their fight by attacking them both and JJ gets away.

After figuring out that JJ had nothing to do with the woman's murder, he is haunted by how had injured her. The twins (hilarious as always) figure out a way to track her down and bring her to the House. The House women quickly figure out that she's a Daughter of Man who has had 4 years of her life erased from her memory. The only thing she has as a memory is a strange tattoo on her shoulder.

Nardo had his work cut out for him proving that he was worthy of JJ's love. She can't remember what happened to her for 4 years and can't let Nardo into her heart for fear of what she is.

I really liked how the author brought together people from the present and past in this book. We are also introduced to other characters. More are hinted for future books. There were a few typos in the book and some run-on sentences, but that didn't deter from the pleasure of the book. I'm looking forward to reading Broadbent's story and of course the twins!
